This game was originally scheduled for Oct. 4 but was postponed in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. When Region 1-AAAAA representatives met following the storm, all games scheduled for that first Friday in October were moved to this Friday as the Georgia High School Association agreed to extend the regular season by a week. The regular season had been scheduled to end last weekend. Brunswick wrapped up the region title with its victory last Friday at South Effingham. The league crown is the third for the Pirates in four seasons. BHS can complete a perfect run through the region schedule with a victory Friday over the Tigers. The Pirates won the 2021 and 2022 league titles by going unbeaten in region games. The Pirates actually had perfect regular seasons both of those years. The Pirates can close the season on a nine-game winning streak with a win at Bradwell before heading into the state playoffs. BHS dropped its season opener at home to Camden County but has reeled off eight consecutive wins since that 51-41 loss at Glynn County Stadium. Brunswick and Bradwell have not played since the 2021 season when the Pirates won 49-6 in the next-to-the-last game of the season at GC Stadium. Last week at South Effingham, BHS senior linebacker J’Shawn Towns returned a fumble and an interception for a touchdown and also intercepted another pass in the game. The 57 points scored by the Pirates were the second-most the team has scored this season. Brunswick scored 61 in its previous game against Lakeside-Evans. Brunswick averages 46.3 points a game and ranks fourth in scoring in Class AAAAA. The Pirates are ranked eighth in the Class AAAAA poll. Bradwell won its opening game over rival Liberty County but then lost its next five before defeating South Effingham 39-27 on Oct. 18. The Tigers have since lost to Lakeside-Evans and Evans. They average 21.3 points a game while allowing 36.8. --- Compiled by Kevin Price for GCS Athletics
