BHS HEADS TO SOUTH EFFINGHAM SEEKING REGION TITLE

Kickoff A look at Brunswick High’s next game: Opponent: South Effingham When: 7:30 p.m. Friday Where: The Corral, Guyton Radio: 107.7 FM Records: BHS 7-1 overall, 6-0 Region 1-AAAAA; SE 0-8, 0-6 Last week: BHS did not play: South Effingham lost 41-7 to Statesboro Last year/All-time: BHS won 38-14; BHS leads 9-1 overall Game Preview The Pirates return to action Friday after having last week off. Brunswick can wrap up the Region 1-AAAAA title with a victory over the winless Mustangs. The oddsmakers expect Brunswick to get that done and do so with a convincing victory as the Pirates have been installed as 47-point favorites. South Effingham has only scored 75 points in their eight games combined for an average of 9.38 points a game. The Mustangs have been held scoreless in four games. Their closest game was two weeks ago when they fell 39-27 at Bradwell Institute, the opponent for the Pirates next week in the season finale. The Mustangs have been beaten by an average of 34 points a game. The Pirates, ranked eighth, are one of the highest-scoring teams in the state as they average 45 points per contest. Two weeks ago, the Pirates routed Lakeside-Evans 61-34 at Glynn County Stadium in a matchup of unbeaten teams in the region. Brunswick has not lost since dropping its season opener at home to Camden County. With wins over both South Effingham and Bradwell to end the regular schedule, the Pirates can claim the region title with a perfect league record a third straight time. Brunswick went undefeated in the regular season while going perfect in the region the last two times they won the championship in the 2021 and 2022 seasons. The Pirates have won nine of 10 meetings against the Mustangs. BHS won 42-3 in 2022 when they last played South Effingham in Guyton. Brunswick’s only loss in the series was back in 2015 when BHS fell 28-24 to the Mustangs in the Corral. ----- Compiled by Kevin Price for GCS Athletics
