GA, BHS SET TO MEET AGAIN ON FRIDAY NIGHT

By Kevin Price For GCS Athletics The Brunswick High and Glynn Academy basketball teams will meet for the second time this season on Friday night. The local schools are set to clash at Brunswick Square Garden on the BHS campus for their Region 2-AAAAAA battles. The boys and girls teams met in early December in their region openers. Those games were played at Glynn. In this Dec. 8 meetings, the Lady Pirates took the girls game by a 65-53 final while the Red Terrors won the boys contest by a 55-49 final tally. Thus, the Brunswick girls and GA boys will be looking to pick up another region victory on Friday while also sweeping the games in the City Championship Series. Friday’s girls game is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start with the boys game to follow. Scheduled tip time is 8 p.m. The Brunswick girls are 7-7 on the season and 2-1 in the region. This past weekend, they played two league games in Augusta, falling to Lakeside-Evans (49-46) on Friday before rebounding with a 62-30 triumph over Evans on Saturday. The Lady Pirates were scheduled to face off with South Effingham at home on Tuesday, but that game had to be postponed due to the severe weather forecast for the day that led to school cancellations across the area. The Lady Terrors will make the short trip over to Brunswick with a 7-9 season worksheet that also includes a 2-1 league record. Glynn was in Augusta last weekend to also play Lakeside and Evans. The Lady Terrors won both region contests, knocking off Evans (54-24) on Friday before edging Lakeside 44-42 on Saturday. As for the boys game Friday, the Terrors will venture across town with a sparkling 13-3 record that includes a 2-1 mark in the region. In addition to topping the Pirates to open the region schedule, the Terrors also defeated Evans (74-68) last Friday before falling at Lakeside (73-61) on Saturday. That loss to Lakeside snapped a five-game win string by the Terrors. Brunswick will enter Friday’s game with a 6-8 overall record. The Pirates are still looking for their first region victory after dropping their first three league games to Glynn, Evans and Lakeside.
