BHS HOSTING WEEKEND WRESTLING TOURNEY

The Second Annual Nigel Hamilton Memorial Tournament will be Saturday at Brunswick High School. It will feature 10 teams and should be a good tune-up for the Region Duals which are next Saturday at South Effingham. Brunswick High is currently ranked 11th in the state and is 17-8 midway through the season! Anthony Lowe is undefeated at 8-0 as a defending State Champion and has moved down a weight class to 190 pounds. Clayton Hicks is currently 33-3 at 126 pounds and the the is looking to claim his first state title this year individually in February after placing 4th and 5th the last two years. River Creel is currently 17-2 at heavyweight and placed 5th last year at state. Also doing well for the Pirates are Stunnar Hutchinson 28-4, Arick Smith 29-8, and Thomas Clay at 32-6. The Pirates are currently in the toughest region in Class 6A with defending state champion South Effingham and Glynn Academy which was fourth in state last winter. South Effingham is currently ranked No. 1 in the state and Glynn Academy is ranked third. Both teams are undefeated and could very well wrestle each other for the region and state championships in the coming weeks. The top two teams from the region qualify for the State Duals at North Forsyth on Jan. 19-20.
