BHS LOOKS TO BOUNCE BACK AGAINST GROVETOWN

By Kevin Price For GCS Athletics Kickoff A look at Brunswick High’s next game: Opponent: Grovetown When: 7:30 p.m. Friday Where: Glynn County Stadium Radio/Video Stream: 107.7 FM; Records: BHS 2-2 overall, 0-1 Region 2-AAAAAA; Grovetown 2-3, 0-1 Last year/All-time: BHS won 56-39; BHS leads 1-0 in all-time series. Game Preview: The Pirates and Warriors are both coming off losses in their Region 2-AAAAAA openers last week. Brunswick fell 22-15 in overtime to Glynn Academy in the annual City Championship Game. Grovetown lost 27-6 at home to Evans. The teams have only met once. That was last year when BHS won 56-39 on a Wednesday night in Augusta. The game was played earlier than scheduled with Hurricane Ian posing a threat to the Georgia coast. Brunswick’s top priority will be winning Friday’s game after losing to the Terrors last week as they look to bounce back from that bitter defeat. But, the Pirates also will be looking to play a cleaner game than they did a week ago. In that loss to the Terrors, BHS was penalized 17 times for 89 yards. The Pirates also lost a fumble, muffed a punt that resulted in a score by the Terrors to tie the game at 15-15 in the fourth quarter, and also had a possible game-winning field goal blocked in the final minute of regulation. Amari Clark returns at quarterback for the Warriors. The senior has passed for 666 yards in five games while throwing for eight touchdowns and rushing for another five. Grovetown’s top player on defense is senior middle linebacker Caleb Washington. He is averaging 11.6 tackles a game.
