Brunswick has three Region 2-AAAAAA games left on the schedule as the Pirates finish out the season. BHS is three victories away from completing its second consecutive unbeaten regular season. The Pirates have won 20 straight regular-season games dating back to the 2020 season and are looking to claim back-to-back region championships. Following this week’s game at South Effingham, the Pirates will travel to Augusta next Thursday to play Evans which is traveling to Brunswick to face off with Glynn Academy on Friday night. The Pirates will close out the season on Nov. 4 against Effingham at Glynn County Stadium. This is just the second game away from home for the Pirates. Their only other game outside of Brunswick was the Wednesday night game in late September at Grovetown which was moved up two days with Hurricane Ian threatening the Georgia coast that week. Brunswick won that game 56-39, but the Warriors scored more points on the Pirates than any other opponent has this season. The Pirates have outscored their first seven opponents 263-96. Brunswick is scoring almost 38 points a game while giving up less than 14 a contest. BHS starting quarterback J.R. Elkins should go over the 1,000-yard mark for passing on Friday. The junior signal-caller has thrown for 976 yards and 12 touchdowns while completing 55 percent of his passes. Junior wideout Terry Mitchell is averaging almost 78 yards receiving per game and has caught seven TD passes. Brunswick’s sophomore running backs Jamarious Towns and William Heck have both carried for more than 400 yards. Heck has rushed for 416 yards and is averaging 4.4 yards a carry. The Mustangs dropped their first two region games to Effingham (29-3) and Glynn Academy (13-9) before knocking off Lakeside-Evans (26-13) last week at home.
