Lakeside-Evans would lose the next week to Warner Robins. Brunswick won the only two regular-season games between the teams back in 2006 and 2007 when the Pirates and Panthers were last in the same region. The Pirates won 48-0 at Lakeside in 2006 and won 24-7 in Brunswick the following season. Both of those BHS teams were coached by Maurice Freeman. The Pirates have now won 19 regular-season games in a row as they look to complete their second straight unbeaten season. Last Wednesday night, the Pirates toppled Grovetown 56-39 after making the long mid-week trip to Augusta earlier than expected with the game moved up two days in advance of Hurrricane Ian. Brunswick led that game 42-18 at halftime. The Pirates had not given up more than 21 points in its first five games. Brunswick has scored 49, 55 and 56 points in its last three games. The Panthers are coming off a 21-20 win last week over local rival Evans. The game was the region opener for the Panthers. They are averaging 20.8 points a game while allowing 15.8. The Panthers are averaging just over 241 yards per game with 211 of that total coming on the ground. Senior Temarcus Elam, who is 190 pounds, averages a team-high 73.5 yards a game. Players to watch on offense for the Pirates include quarterback J.R. Elkins, receivers Jayden Drayton and Terry Mitchell, running backs William Heck and Jamarius Towns, defensive lineman Ka’Shawn Thomas, linebacker Devin Smith, safety Ivan Johnson and kicker McClain Finneran.
