Game Preview
Brunswick will host Bradwell Institute for its annual Homecoming Game Friday night at Glynn County Stadium.
The Pirates are coming off last week’s emotional victory over rival Glynn Academy. Brunswick trailed 37-21 with just over seven minutes left and rallied to pull out a 41-37 victory to claim the City Championship for the second straight season and fifth time in six seasons.
BHS senior quarterback Grant Moore was named the Glynn County Sports Hall of Fame Player of the Game after throwing for 336 yards and four touchdowns in the come-from-behind win.
Moore led the Pirates on a 95-yard scoring drive to pull BHS within 37-34 inside the two-minute mark, finishing off the drive with a touchdown pass. Brunswick would recover and onside kick and Moore would lead the offense into the end zone again for the winning score in the final seconds, throwing a long pass deep into Glynn territory to set up a rushing touchdown for the win on the next play.
Junior running back Josiah Gibbons, the Farm Bureau Offensive MVP for the Pirates, had more than 100 yards both rushing and receiving in the win while scoring a receiving touchdown.
The Pirates have won five in a row since the season-opening loss at Camden County. The win streak includes victories in their first four region games.
With four region games to play, the Pirates still have a chance to finish out a second straight perfect run through the league as they try to claim a second straight region title and the No. 1 seed from the region for the Class AAAAA state playoffs.
Brunswick is averaging 43.3 points per game which is he fifth-best scoring average in Class AAAAA.
Bradwell is averaging 33.8 points a game. The Tigers put up 35 points in their first two league games, defeating Glynn (35-28) before losing to Effingham (43-35).
The Tigers would also lose the next week to Statesboro (38-28) before winning at Greenbrier (51-23) last Friday.
Jahbari Felix, a 6-foot, 190-pound senior, has thrown for 1,194 yards and 11 touchdowns this season for Bradwell. Three different receivers for the Tigers have at least 13 receptions for 250-plus yards and two or more touchdowns.
Junior Cameron Keeve is averaging almost 94 yards per game on the ground.
